August Love with Food Box Review!

You may have noticed I didn’t review July’s box. There wasn’t anything wrong with July’s box, but it was sort of “meh” so I decided to skip it. Here’s Josh tasting the squeezy bag of oatmeal mush:

Anyhoo, August’s box totally made up for it! Here’s the box, just opened:

Look at all this STUFF!!!

Do I spy a full sized bag of candy? Why, yes!

IMG_20150816_123423022_HDR (1)KIND Healthy Grains Popped Salted Caramel

IMG_20150818_062850762 (1)Hey KIND? You had me at “salted caramel”. I’ve had KIND bars before and always enjoy them, but I hadn’t seen this kind before. (Get it? Kind?) This is basically a granola bar, but it’s not too sweet, has a great texture, and 100% whole grains. I love alternative grains, and this bar has SIX: oats, sorghum, millet, amaranth, quinoa and buckwheat. I would definitely buy these again. Om nom nom!

Enlightened Roasted Broad Beans

IMG_20150819_143155315 (1)Uh, roasted bean snacks? Tons of protein? HELL YES! These were seriously delicious and hit all my notes: salty, nutty, crunchy AND healthy. A nearly perfect snack! If I can’t find these at a local store, I plan on using my Love with Food points to buy some. I wanted to eat them so badly I barely remembered to take a pic!

Fruity Pie – Apricot and Almond

IMG_20150818_173247651 (1)Anything that combines dried apricots and almonds cannot be bad. And it wasn’t, it was delicious! Sort of like a Fruit Roll Up but in disc format. Mmmm.

Go Organics Apple Hard Candies

IMG_20150822_164423232We got an entire bag of these! The only bad part is that they’re apple flavored, which isn’t my favorite, but they taste a lot like apple cider, like REAL apple cider. I gave these to the Hubs.

479 Degrees Sea Salt Popcorn

IMG_20150821_133748311_HDRThis was super yummy. In the end, though, it’s just salted popcorn. Really yummy salted popcorn! (As you can see I couldn’t wait to tear into this.)

Wild Friends Chocolate Coconut Peanut Butter

IMG_20150819_075833499 (1)*sigh* I wanted so much to love this. You could definitely taste the coconut and the chocolate, but dang it if it wasn’t grainy. There’s a reason I stick with my mainstay, Skippy. It was good, but just not for me.

La Panzanella Croccantini Artisan Italian Crackers – Rosemary

IMG_20150822_164435500I’m sorry to say this, but I took one bite of these and fed the rest of them to Bingley. He really enjoyed them, though!

Stash Lemon Rooibos Iced Herbal Tea Powder

IMG_20150822_164441275Made The Hubs try this, since I’ve had rooibos before and it wasn’t my thing. (I’m a total tea snob, and rooibos is not true tea!) He made it and was sort of neutral on the flavor, so I took a sip. Basically it tasted like lemon water. Not bad, just not amazing.

All in all, a great box! Can’t wait to try September’s!

  1. I actually won a giveaway of 4 full jars of wild friends nut butter in various flavors a while back off of Lucky Vitamin. I didn’t think I was ever going to get through it all! I thought they’d be mini packs, and they arrived as full sized jars. I mean, how much choco-peanut butter can you really eat? lol. The grainy texture didn’t particularly bother me, but I always favored chunky peanut butter in my skippy days, so I guess I don’t mind a bit of a crunch. I’ve sworn off skippy since going organic. Skippy now tastes like a mouthful of powdered sugar to me. I did get used to this wild friends stuff, but I won’t pretend I wasn’t glad to get back to my organic shoprite pb&j. I’m not used to sweetened peanut butter anymore, and found the agave in the wild friends just too darn much for me. Too much sweet. Too little nut flavor. If I want nut butter, It should taste more like nuts than all the additives, I figure.

You already know how I feel about the go organic hard candies. The apple ones are pretty okay, but I still favor the honey when I can get them. I have a cup full of pomegranate in my desk at work, atm, since that was what was in stock when I ran out. I buy the apple once in a while, though, depending on what flavors are available at the time.

And I totally buy that 479 popcorn occassionally. There’s a coconut caramel one, I think. I don’t buy it often, but I smuggle it into the movie theater because something in the movie theater’s popcorn makes my tummy very unhappy, and if I’m going to have an unhappy tummy, I don’t want it while sitting in a movie theater.

I’m not a fan of stash teas in general. If I have to buy something that isn’t loose leaf, I go for Numi. I’m a tea snob in my own way. I have nothing against herbals or tisanes, but they have to be of a good quality, and stash just doesn’t do it for me.

It’s funny how much of your box I’m familiar with. The roasted beans and fruity pie look tasty. I go for That’s It bars for my fruit roll up flavor fix, but if I see one of those I may need to check it out.
